TULSA, Okla. (KOKI) — Union Public Schools has released their ‘Safe Return and Continuity of Services Plan’ for the 2021-22 school year.
The plan, released Thursday night, includes a letter from the superintendent, detailing what could happen if a COVID-19 outbreak occurs. The letter also strongly encourages wearing masks.
The plan says, “In the event of a large outbreak of COVID-19, or a high risk of community spread at one or more schools, Union may decide to activate distance learning for all students who selected ‘In-Person Learning.’”
To minimize the spread of COVID-19, Union says they are strongly recommending that all staff members, students, and guests wear a mask while inside any Union facility when in the presence of others.
Union says they are also strongly encouraging parents to consider vaccinating students age 12 and older against COVID-19.
The school district says due to bus driver shortages, they may not be able to provide bus service for all students. Union says routes may be canceled with little advance notice. If routes need to be canceled, they said it will start with grades 10-12, then 9th grade, 8th grade and so on. They said routes will not impact special education routes unless specifically noted. The district continues to encourage students to wear masks on buses due to limited bus driver availability.
