TULSA, Okla. — In an article recently released by The New York Times, Country Bird Bakery was named one of the 22 best bakeries in the United States.
FOX23 went out to the bakery to observe the line of people waiting for their baked goods and to get their thoughts on the bakery.
“I’m here for bread,” shared Tzvia Jasper, who has been living in Tulsa for three years. “Every Saturday, Country Bird is open. It’s the only day they are open to get fresh, delicious bread and I am willing to stand in a 40-minute line to get their delicious fresh bread. They also have hummus, labneh, even ice cream, and it is truly fantastic.”
Jasper said she only learned about the bakery’s inclusion in the New York Times article while standing in line today, but said they absolutely deserve the distinction.
“I’m so excited for the most part! Also, kind of upset because now everybody’s going to know my little secret of where I get my bread, so the lines are going to be much longer, but honestly still worth it. I will wait in these lines for well over an hour to get this bread.”
Jasper’s sentiment seems to be shared by many customers as they waited in a line that stretched around the block to buy items from the bakery.
Country Bird Bakery states they use regionally sourced grains and flours, which supports local farmers and gives the bakery access to top-quality ingredients. Beyond selling their products, Country Bird Bakery also holds workshops to help teach the art of bread making.
