Whether you’re a football fan or not, Super Sunday has become a big day in America! Here are a few fun facts that you may not know.
1.) Super Bowl Sunday is the second biggest eating day of the year for Americans (Thanksgiving is number 1). It’s estimated that we will eat close to 1.4 billion wings, over 11 million pounds of potato chips, 8.2 million pounds of tortilla chips, and 8 million pounds of guacamole.
2.) Tickets for the big game are expensive, but they haven’t always been pricey. Tickets for Super Bowl I cost as little as $6. Ticket prices for SB LV range from just under $7,000 to just under $74,000 depending on your seats.
3.) Commercials for the big game this year will cost around $5.6 million. In comparison, a commercial for the first game was about $40,000.
4.) The NFL uses Roman numerals for the Super Bowl to avoid confusion since the season spans over 2 calendar years.
5.) The Halftime Show is anticipated as much as the big game. Interesting fact, the NFL does not pay a band or artists to perform. They cover expenses, but that’s it. Some big names have performed over the years like The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Shania Twain, and many more. This year The Weeknd spent $7 million of his own money for production costs of his Halftime Show.
Enjoy the big game!
